Halter

You’ll learn about what is expected in the show ring, from exhibitor etiquette to terms the judges use.  You’ll practice with an alpaca in ring patterns and in how to handle your alpaca during the more “difficult” times during judging.

Fleece

What is a fleece show?  What is a Spin off competition?  And what’s the difference?  You’ll learn the value of each type of fleece competition.  More emphasis will be on Fleece Shows and how the judges score a fleece and how to skirt your fleece for maximum points.  We’ll have different fleeces so you can be the judge to become more comfortable evaluating your own fleeces.

Performance

This is one class that is often overlooked, but it is so much fun for all ages.  Just training for this competitive class is beneficial in so many ways.  You’ll learn how to “talk ‘paca” so your alpaca will load into the trailer, walk in a straight line, back up, walk up stairs and down a ramp and more.  Can you see how this training would be beneficial in your barn?  Yeah, that’s the point of this show.

There is also a Public Relations Class where the handler is judged on how effectively they can talk to a group of people about alpacas.  We can help you with this too, because again, yeah, that’s the point of having alpacas in any public situation.

All performance classes are divided into age groups from youth to adults.

There are several reasons you may want to show your alpaca.  It’s not only a place to compete for ribbons, but it’s a good way to see how your animal compares to other animals in the industry.  Is your breeding program taking you in the direction you want to go, or do you need to reevaluate?
